Bullying is a serious epidemic in the world today. I see it happening everywhere and many parents don’t know how to help their child overcome this. Children often feel isolated and alone – which can lead to long-term issues. Well, this mother took her son’s isolation into her own hands and created a Facebook page to show him that there is life outside of the dark time we call Middle School and there are people that care, even if they are strangers.
“I am Colin’s mom, I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th. Because of Colin’s disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don’t like him. So when I asked him if he wanted a party for his birthday, he said there wasn’t a point because he has no friends. He eats lunch alone in the office everyday because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office. So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party. Please join me in making my very original son feel special on his day.”
Colin, a ten-year-old boy that was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, told his Mother he had no friends to invite to his 11th Birthday party. He told his mom he spends his lunch hour alone in the office because none of the kids want to sit with him. Jennifer, Kalamazoo mother-of-two, made this Facebook Page in hope of getting a few birthday wishes for Colin to lift his spirits. What she got was more than 1 Million strangers sending Colin love and support! Go check out the page! Colin’s birthday is March 9th. Remember, this page is still a secret, so shhhhh.
